St Germain celebrates 20 years of ‘Tourist’ with special edition release

St Germain TOURIST album (2000)

French electronic music producer Ludovic Navarre aka St. Germain celebrates the 20th anniversary of his critically acclaimed album Tourist. The acid nu jazz album described by All Music as “a synthesis of electronics with jazz soloing” was St Germain’s  third studio album which went on to sell over four million copies.

St Germain – Sure Thing (released 2000)

Officially released in 2000, ‘Tourist’ packed the right ingredients of fusing house and nu jazz, which transformed the French producer into superstardom. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Tourist’, St Germain released a special remix album 29 January 2021, inviting producers from South Africa, Reunion Island, USA and France to bring their own musical renditions of Deep House , Afro House and Chicago House.

I would like to thank all the people I asked to travel through their favorite Tourist album track. Some of them worked on my last Africa-in- spired album in 2015, like my dear friend Atjazz, who helped me a lot on this new project, and also Terry Laird Dj Deep and Traumer. I don’t haveto introduce highly respected newcomers such as Nightmares On Wax ,Jovonn, Ron Trent, Black Motion, Osunlade and Jullian Gomes. I truly enjoy their passion for music, their personality and musical integrity. I know they’ve got soul! – St Germain

In terms of tracks I dig, ‘Sure Thing’ remixes by Julian Gomes and Osunlade’s Yoruba Soul Remix were decadent on the eardrum. Listen to St Germain’s new Tourist 20th Anniversary album below
