It was just last week that I think for many speaking of the helmet wearing bandits, would have said ” Daft Punk is… ” as opposed to the new “Daft Punk were..” an iconic French electronic music act, hands down worthy of a lifetime achievement award for contributions to the genre.
After 28 years since their inception, and the ground breaking debut album Homework (1997), with hit singles Around The World, Da Funk , and Alive to name a few, who would have expected Daft Punk’s break up announcement delivered in the form of a music video. Yes, delivered in a video!
On Monday February 22, the duo released a new video on their YouTube channel, depicting visuals from a scene to their 2006 film Electroma, showing the duo say goodbye and walk away from each other , soon thereafter one member of Daft Punk explodes followed by the hands of each surrounded by 1993 – 2021. The bizarre video was soon confirmed as a break up by the groups longtime publicist Kathryn Frazier, who did not give any reasons for the split. Check out the video below…
