All African fashion enthusiasts had their eyes focused on Cape Town over the past few days, for African Fashion International’s (AFI) Cape Town Fashion Week 2019 (CTFW). The prestigious event saw celebrities, influencers and media flock to Cape Town for the annual fashion showcase which took place from the 9-13 April at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Fashion Week is all about the runways, but also included various events and workshops discussing African fashion, sustainability and growth. This year CTFW hosted the first International Luxury Conference on the continent made possible by AFI, with guests that included Suzy Menkes (Editor of Vogue International), Marco Bizzari (President and CEO of Gucci), LVMH French multinational luxury goods conglomerate, and Naomi Campbell to name a few.
The annual showcase kicked off with the traditional Gala dinner hosted at Groot Constantia this year, and then to the main attraction of runway shows from the 11 – 13 April. This year CTFW 2019 with the theme ‘A journey back home’ (#IAmAfrica), saw designers from Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Cameroon, Morocco and South Africa display their various African inspired designs. So to not delay, let’s take a look at some of the designs that graced the runway at CTFW 2019 below…
