In the music business, we find people are always looking for the next big thing, or fresh new talent that has the potential but needs the guidance to make a success in the music industry. In my personal opinion, I have heard music play on South African radio, and sometimes I wonder how they got the airplay, when other artists possess the same talent but don’t get the opportunity. So to be a true to Cult Report’s vision of unearthing music and promoting unknown artists, I bring you Emihle Jaxa better known as Ruby Jax.
Ruby Jax – Bodak Yellow acapella (Cover)
Who is she?
Ruby Jax is an up and coming artist from the community of New Crossroads, a township located in the City of Cape Town. In 2014 she featured on a track titled “Save Africa (Say no to Xenophobia)” hosted by music producer Question. In 2017 she released a cover version of Kodak Black’s song “Roll In Peace”, which received many positive responses across social media, and resulted in her musical talent being validated. After the success of “Roll in Peace”, she would build on that momentum and release her first single “Love Me Right” (March 2018), which made the playlists of many popular South African radio stations, earning her an invitation to share the stage with well-known musicians and producers, Gemini Major and Tshego. With the positive responses from listeners, Ruby Jax went on to release her follow up single “Stay” produced by Mxhosabeats in April 2018, proving that she can be versatile as an artist.

Her recent single titled “No Drama” produced by Question, has been making waves on the local South African scene, resulting in her being nominated for the Best Afro Pop award by Zibonele FM. In terms of appearances, Ruby’s been interviewed by Bush Radio, Cape Town TV and performed on Hectic Nine9. We don’t know what will be her next achievement, but I must admit that as long as she works hard and keeps doing what she loves, anything is possible for this young independent artist.
